Most of us have had the awful experience of hopping into our car, sliding the key into the ignition and hearing a sound different than what was expected. Rather than the engine roaring to life there is a quiet little “click, click, click”. So, you probably try again, but get nothing but the clicking. The bad news is you’ve probably got a dead battery, the good news is that it takes less than ten minutes to charge a dead battery.

At D Mac’s Auto Repair, we do a lot of standard auto repair in Escondido, CA including charging and replacing car batteries. However, you don’t always need to phone for help if you need to charge a dead battery, and if you have jumper cables, a car that you can use to start your own, and ten minutes of time, you are in luck.

How to Charge a Dead Battery

A dead battery is not the end of the world. If does not respond to your jump start, we can offer car battery replacement in Escondido, but first give those jumper cables a chance. How? It is very easy. Just pull the working car close to your car, open both hoods and shut off the other car. Then use the red cable to connect to the working battery terminal and then attach the red cable to your dead battery’s positive terminal. Do the same with the negative or black cables. Then start the engine on the working car and let it run for two full minutes. Then go ahead and start your car. Let them both run for two more minutes and then remove all of the cables in reverse order (your negative, the good car’s negative, your positive and the good car’s positive). Let the car run in place for a few minutes, and then you can drive.
